This is the personal blog of Jeffrey Scherer. It began as a way to write the experience of moving to Mérida, Yucatán, México in October of 2013. It is now about the experience of living in Mexico and creating art.

All proceeds from my art go to library related causes. See www.schererworks.com for more details.

  1. Felicidades, Jeff & Lea, on finding a promising place on the Yucatan. Andrea, I, and daughter Adele had a refreshing vacation at Isla Mujeres just off Cancun some years back. I had my eye on Merida as a place to see one day. I grew up fishing in the Gulf off of Louisiana and would fantasize about putting on extra tanks on my friends 42 foot fishing boot and heading down there. Who knows? May this project flow joyfully for you! We look forward to following your progress, and/or perhaps loading up my tools onto a barge and crossing the pond to help with the barn raising.

    Buena suerte con todo,

  3. First time I read your blog – interesting and honest, and clearly we can very specifically identify with many of your challenges. Whatever our temperaments and past criteria for living, we’re all certainly called to curve into an entirely unpredictable and often uncomfortable learning trajectory. I think living, and authentically celebrating a life in Merida DOES take a radical & fundamental shift in perspective. For us, that has meant a radical review of priorities and most especially notions of what delivers “perfection” in just about every arena ! Do hope the “ups” will begin to out weigh the “Downs ” for the two of you.
